Audi creates A3 TDI clubsport quattro concept
As SUVs go Audi's Q7 V12 TDI is about as extreme as they get. With 500hp and 738lb-ft of torque the 6.0L V12 undoubtedly has far more output than a SUV ever should. However, later this month in Austria Audi will take the wraps of something equally aggressive looking but with a more reasonable size and output level. The A3 clubsport quattro adds big mouth air intakes and flared fenders to the compact-sized A3. Under the hood lies an enhanced output version of the VW/Audi 2.0L TDI diesel. While regular production versions of the 2.0L generate either 140hp of 170hp, this cranks out 224hp and 332lb-ft of twisting force. Transmitted through a 6-speed manual gearbox to all four wheels, that's enough to motivate the A3 to 62mph in about 6.6 sec. The A3 clubsport will get its unveiling at the annual Lake Wörther Tour in Carinthia, Austria at the end of May. So far, Audi isn't giving any indications of production plans although a single make racing series like the Jetta TDI cup or a Touring car racer might not be out the question. A modern high efficiency take on the GTI concept for the road could also be a possibility, although with more subdued graphics.
